The Auto-Pilot Myth Of Our Democracy (Poems In A Pandemic #28)

Oh, how naïve I have been all these years. Maybe many of us? To think we could occasionally vote, give a couple of bucks to a candidate, and then wait passively, on the sidelines, for democracy to remain vital and whole. If nothing else, the catastrophes of the last four years, political, pandemic, environmental, have punctured once and for all the “automatic pilot” myth of our democracy and times. For me, this week’s poem called “Breathe” by Lynn Ungar is all about creating a new activism era, where each of us has a real and vibrant role to play. (You know, getting into plenty of that good and necessary trouble.)
